The release date of Civilization Beyond earth has been announced. It will be released worldwide on the 24th of October. It will be released simultaneously for PC Mac and Linux (unlike with Civ 5 where it came a whole two month later out). Although availability has not yet been clarified it will most likely have a CD download including a digital download from steam. It is not clear if it will be released on the Mac App Store on day one.
Today I would like to talk about a mod thats been out for Civ for a while now but I never got into it. A couple of days ago I decided to give it a go and I loved it. The game ideas and mechanics are changed quite a lot but they make sense and are still amazing. I love all the customized units such as land icon lands are the air balloons. It makes the game feel so much more interesting.
Winning the game is a bit different than in a usual civ game, instead of winning a science victory by going to Alpha Centauri or winning a Domination Victory by conquering all the Capital cities in the world, here in the steampunk mod you win victories by owning the most units or generating the most gold in a period of time, its pretty nice in my opinion.
I recommend you to give it a try and I think you’ll like it.
So hi all and a belated happy new year!
So I was wondering about something, it occurred to me that every major release of civ happened about every 4-5 years so we might hopefully be expecting some nice news from the guys at Firaxes about a complete new Civ game like something that might be called Civilization 6? Maybe, we won’t know for sure but we will most likely again here something from the guys at Firaxes for sure but if it will be about a new expansion pack or a new game we won’t know yet.
First of all Merry Christmas to all of you hope you had great dinner yesterday!
Although the modding community is great in the civ 5 making mods and adding mods in the game I think is quite hard to do (somewhat a similar issue with Minecraft). I think a good way to fix this issue is to add a mod installer in the game menu when you start the game. Now you might think that there is already solution to this… the steam workshop, but as you might already know Civ 5 is available on disk and the Mac app store where such a feature is not included. So how do you think Firaxes could fix this modding issue. Post it in the comments below

As it has been nearly a whole month since the introduction and the release of the Brave New World expansion pack I decided to try to predict the future roadmap for the Civilization franchise. So let’s get started.
Like Civilization 4 I would predict that Civilization 5 will have three different Expansion packs which would most likely mean that the last expansion pack will be released in the middle of next year 2014. Probably the year later in early 2015 firaxes would most likely announce Civilization 6 or a continuation of the civilization franchise. This of course is not sure as we have seen firaxes branch in to new Game franchises such as the quite successful game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. But if all goes well Civilization 6 will be announced in early 2015 and released between September and November for both Mac and PC and later in the following years introduce expansion packs for civilization 6.
All of this is speculation but it seams to be the most probable future for the civilization franchise.
Civilization 5 has lately been getting quite some heat lately on the Mac App Store. Civilization 5 (OSX Version) seams to have been getting performance issues most particularly crashing. And the response of the community has not been positive about it. The game went from a nearly perfect 5 star rating to a 3 star rating currently. And this for a app featured on the Mac App Store is not to acceptable.
Although I myself have not been getting these issues I have recognized that on some more low powered machines the issue occurs far more often. Which to me sounds as if it is a optimization issue. Which Civilization 5 was never great at compared to Civilization 4 or the upcoming Rome 2 Total war.
All in all Firaxes and Aspyer have some hard issues to fix in the long run.
As many of you probably know that the Brave New World expansion pack just very recently was released to be exact on the 9th of July. If you do not know much about its availability yet here is a little overview.
It has been released on Mac and PC on steam and is available as a DLC. You do have to buy civilization 5 to run it just like with God’s and King’s. It is also available on the Apple Mac App Store as a DLC likewise as with steam you need to buy Civilization 5 first and then the DLC.
Of course with both steam and the Mac App Store if you already have civilization 5 you only need to buy the DLC brave new world.
I will be coming out with a review of the game shortly.
Post in the comments what your own opinion on the new DLC is.
