Steampunk Civ

Today I would like to talk about a mod thats been out for Civ for a while now but I never got into it. A couple of days ago I decided to give it a go and I loved it. The game ideas and mechanics are changed quite a lot but they make sense and are still amazing. I love all the customized units such as land icon lands are the air balloons. It makes the game feel so much more interesting.

Winning the game is a bit different than in a usual civ game, instead of winning a science victory by going to Alpha Centauri or winning a Domination Victory by conquering all the Capital cities in the world, here in the steampunk mod you win victories by owning the most units or generating the most gold in a period of time, its pretty nice in my opinion.

I recommend you to give it a try and I think you’ll like it.


Modding in CIV 5 and a Merry Christmas

First of all Merry Christmas to all of you hope you had great dinner yesterday!

Although the modding community is great in the civ 5 making mods and adding mods in the game I think is quite hard to do (somewhat a similar issue with Minecraft). I think a  good way to fix this issue is to add a mod installer in the game menu when you start the game. Now you might think that there is already solution to this… the steam workshop, but as you might already know Civ 5 is available on disk and the Mac app store where such a feature is not included. So how do you think Firaxes could fix this modding issue. Post it in the comments below

Civ 5 mod updates

Finally the October mods for civ 5 have come out and they are good. Let’s go through them.


Here I will chose my favorite mods and what they are about.

Well the first one is not really a mod but more an addition unit which I really liked and it is called the Dutch lancer


Next one I like is the is a civ made for god’s and king’s (civ 5 expansion pack) and it’s called The Flemish Community mod. It adds some nice cities like Bruge, Antwerp, Brussels and so forth.
The features are for this mode. UA: Artistic Heritage. +1 Culture for each specialist. +5% Gold and Production in your 4 largest cities for each Policy Branch finished.
UU: City Militia, replaces Pikeman. Slightly stronger and bonus in Marsh.
UB: Belfort, replaces Castle. +1 (v) or 2 (g+k) Gold, +2 Culture, cheaper but less defense than Castle.
UB: Béguinage (v), replaces Monastery. Requires no Wine or Incense but gives no culture bonus for them either, +1 Happiness.

And last but not least is The American civil war scenario mod. It takes place in a time when America is split between north and south you have to complete it in 120 turns and your objective is to reunite the United States of America.
Like many other mods this requires God’s and King’s and is now available on steam workshop for civ5

Civilization 5 mod updates

For the last couple of weeks it’s been very boring to be a civ blogger. But at last there is something for me to blog about and that is the new mod updates for civ5. So let’s get right to it.

This month seams to be very good month with a lot of epic mods. In my opinion one of the best for a long time. So whats there to be downloaded.

Well for mods you have three for Civilization 5 and another one for Civilization 5 God’s and King’s and this one I found particularly interesting so I took a look at it and this is what it is about.

The mod has a sort of different view how the game time works. Instead of ending in 2050 the task is to end in the 60’s with WW2 military technology . Due to this I have recognized that the tech tree doesn’t have any of the future or atomic age technologies but still has the space race which means you can win with a science victory.

No more scenarios

Let’s face the truth. We have not seen any new scenarios for almost a year and it is has pondered this question in my head if we still going to expect a new scenario and in my opinion probably not even though they could do so many other things I think that they have left it up to the modders and now also with the steam workshop I think that there mission is complete which is not do our own stuff but let the community make which in some senesce is quite good.

New civ patch

This new civ patch I think is concentrated a lot to the modding community as it features the following:

  • Steam Workshop enabled.
  • DLL swapping is now possible in-game.
  • Updated mod browser to utilize Steam Workshop.
  • Font Icons are now moddable.
  • Unit art is now fully moldable.
  • Mods are now activated the moment you click “Next” on the mods browser rather than when you click “Single Player.

Civ 5 mod updates

Few days ago there where mod updates for Civ 4. Now finally after a considerably long time new update info for civ 5 has been released.

Now most of them are updates and if you want know more info about them you could go to

But something that got my eye (ouch)… was that there was a mod called (Earth Plus for God’s and King’s.)

Now here are the features for this mod

The map is basically the normal Earth map from civ 5 but with some tweaks and extra features. Like putting in all the 12 natural wonders. It also uses Atoll terrain feature (don’t know what it is please tell me in the comments).

So in short it is not the biggest mod but it is worth trying.

New mods have come out for civ IV of course like always at every end of the month.

So this month we got some new mods and ones that got updated.

And now the mod that I recommend and I think is the best one is. Travel through time: Unwritten History v1.2. Like in the last two posts about civ updates I always though that Travel through time: Unwritten History was the best as it boasted many features lots of textures and a vibrant gameplay.

Empire of the smokey skies is a scenario pack from the God’s and King’s scenario pack. It’s quite in my opinion the best scenario of all the civ series.
