Civilization Beyond Earth has been released for Mac just a couple days ago, you can buy it from the App store and Steam. Firaxes and 2K have also announced that the Linux version of the game will come soon.
I will now install Civ BE and just play around with it and write a post about my experiences later.
Today I would like to talk about a mod thats been out for Civ for a while now but I never got into it. A couple of days ago I decided to give it a go and I loved it. The game ideas and mechanics are changed quite a lot but they make sense and are still amazing. I love all the customized units such as land icon lands are the air balloons. It makes the game feel so much more interesting.
Winning the game is a bit different than in a usual civ game, instead of winning a science victory by going to Alpha Centauri or winning a Domination Victory by conquering all the Capital cities in the world, here in the steampunk mod you win victories by owning the most units or generating the most gold in a period of time, its pretty nice in my opinion.
I recommend you to give it a try and I think you’ll like it.
Today I would like to talk about something that generally annoys me. Me and a couple of my friends were trying to play a game of civ together with each other. All of us had Mac running the same version OSX 10.8.5, most of us had the game from the app store except one of us, he bought it from steam. Anyway we though because we are all using macs on the same platform playing multiplayer with the Steam version and Mac app store would just work. Well it did not you cant even host a game with each other. And I do find it quite annoying that just because they are from different stores they cant work together.
Firaxes just recently put civilization 5 and all of its DLC’s at 75% sale which means it is at 10 dollars!
So if you don’t have civ 5 yet or you want a couple of DLC’s now is the time to to get them.
Just a while ago I went to the the mac app store to read some reviews of Civilization 5 and many of the reviews mention annoying bugs.
As you see the reviews of the bugs are around the release time of the God’s and King’s expansion pack on the Mac app store, so it might be the God’s and King’s could be part of this. Also what quite strange is that these bugs have not been occurring on the Mac version on steam and only on the Mac app store version.
Their might be a reason to this and reason why it’s taken so long to fix is that the steam version and the Mac app store version have different code. It might have somehow in the workflow gotten in to a mess and it might be why its taking so long to fix these bugs.
What is your opinion on this situation comment below
Recently there came a new update to civ rev which ads multiplayer support which is a feature which I have been waiting for since the release of the game 5 years ago. Also they have added something interesting, just like with civ 5 on the mac app store they have added in app purchases. Such as wonders new units etc, so could there be a chance that there will be soon to come expansion packs for Civ rev?
What is your opinion on it?
Even though there was civ 5 update on steam. There was not one on the app store to my surprise, which means I still get the bugs I got on the version before. So today I was starting up a new Campaign with the Byzantine empire (God’s and King’s) and something went wrong with the load up.
As you can see a graphics but also computing issue. The most noticeable thing is most probably the checker board. But as you can also see there is the American icon with egyptian pyramids. ODD.
Even so Eventually my game crashed and you might say this is an issue with memory or graphics card etc. But i don’t think so as I have a sutibale graphics card to play Civ 5 (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB) and I quite every app that was running so that could not be a memory issue.
